Refund and Returns Policy

Last updated: 29 August 2026

Thank you for shopping with Interco Publishers. We want you to be happy with every book you order from us. This policy explains how returns, refunds, and exchanges work for orders placed through publishers.interco.co.za.

Overview

Our returns policy lasts 30 days from the date your order is delivered. If 30 days have passed since delivery, we unfortunately cannot offer you a refund or exchange.

To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused, unread beyond reasonable inspection, and in the same condition that you received it, including its original packaging. A receipt or proof of purchase (such as your order number) is required to process any return.

Damaged, Defective, or Incorrect Items

We carefully check every order before it leaves our warehouse, but if a book arrives damaged, defective (e.g. printing errors, missing pages, misbound copies), or is not what you ordered, please contact us within 7 days of delivery at Intercopublishers@interco.co.za with your order number and a photo of the item. We will arrange a free replacement, full refund, or store credit, and we will cover the cost of returning the item in these cases.

Non-Returnable Items

Several types of items are exempt from being returned:

  • eBooks, audiobooks, and other digital or downloadable products, once the download or access link has been delivered
  • Gift cards and vouchers
  • Personalised, signed, or special-order items, unless received damaged or defective
  • Items marked as final sale, clearance, or discontinued at the time of purchase

To complete a standard (non-defective) return, we also require that the item is in its original, resalable condition. Any book showing signs of reading wear, writing, highlighting, or damage to the cover or spine may only be eligible for a partial refund, at our discretion.

How to Request a Return

To start a return, email us at Intercopublishers@interco.co.za or use our Contact page with your order number, the item(s) you wish to return, and the reason for the return. We will confirm your eligibility and provide return instructions, including the address to send your item to.

Please do not send purchases back to us without first requesting a return, as items sent back without prior authorisation may not be accepted.

Refunds

Once your return is received and inspected, we will send you an email to confirm that we have received your returned item and let you know whether your refund has been approved.

If approved, your refund will be processed to your original method of payment within 5–10 business days. Please note that depending on your bank or card issuer, it may take additional time for the refund to reflect in your account.

Late or Missing Refunds

If you haven’t received a refund within the timeframe above, please first check your bank account again, then contact your card issuer or bank, as it may take some time before your refund is officially posted. If you’ve done this and still have not received your refund, please contact us at Intercopublishers@interco.co.za.

Exchanges

We only replace items if they are defective, damaged, or incorrect. If you need to exchange a defective item for the same title, contact us at Intercopublishers@interco.co.za and we will arrange this, subject to stock availability.

Order Cancellations

You may cancel an order for a full refund at any time before it has been dispatched. Once an order has been dispatched, it can no longer be cancelled and will instead need to be handled as a return once received, in line with this policy.

Shipping Costs

Unless an item arrived damaged, defective, or incorrect, you will be responsible for paying the shipping costs for returning your item, and original shipping charges are non-refundable. If you receive a refund, the cost of any return shipping will be deducted from your refund unless the return is a result of our error.

Your Statutory Rights

Nothing in this policy affects your statutory rights as a consumer, including any rights you may have under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 (South Africa) or other applicable consumer protection legislation in your country of residence. Where this policy is more generous than your statutory rights, this policy will apply; where your statutory rights offer greater protection, those rights will prevail.
